We are dedicated to the philosophy of individualized instruction that is based on Texas state-adopted textbooks and/or online coursework approved by the Texas Education agency. Instructional methods are adjusted to meet the needs of each student on the basis of ongoing formal and informal assessments. HLA challenges students and enables them to realize their innate potential.

HLA also stresses student responsibility and development of a personal sense of values. The school provides clear-cut academic and behavioral guidelines and boundaries while still providing students with flexibility and choice.

HLA offers a standards-based, college-preparatory curriculum and follows the state of Texas requirements for graduation. In addition to courses in English, history, mathematics, and science, HLA provides a wide variety of electives.
