Our private day school offers a college preparatory, accredited curriculum that meets the state of Texas requirements for graduation. In addition to courses in English, history, mathematics, and science, HLA provides a wide variety of electives. With the elimination of homeroom and study halls, HLA’s academic block schedule allows students to concentrate on their core academic courses. HLA's typical school day is four and one-half hours long, and all courses meet the hourly requirement set by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Our day school program features:

  • Supportive environment with individualized instruction and caring, qualified teachers
  • Classroom learning supplemented with projects, field trips, and community service
  • Frequent progress reporting and other parent communications to stay on track
  • TEA-approved courses
  • SACS accreditation

Additional advantages of HLA day school programs:

College Planning and Career Preparation
A school administrator is available for students as they begin college planning in their junior year.

Work-Study Program
Students may enroll in a standards-based work-study program (elective credit only) by working after school. The student, teacher, and employer work together to monitor and to assess the student’s progress.  Elective credit is awarded only if the student masters the essential work-study TEA standards.

Flexible Study Program
HLA offers students the option to complete coursework through flexible scheduling. Students work individually with teachers to master the standards, complete comprehensive assignments and demonstrate proficiency and skill mastery. The same academic expectations apply to all courses regardless of the scheduling option chosen.

Virtual Course Offerings
Our virtual courses offer full-time day school students the advantage of supplementing their program with additional academic, approved coursework required by the state of Texas for graduation. These virtual, online courses are offered through a TEA-approved provider.
