Unique, Flexible Program Options

HLA's typical school day is four and a half hours, allowing students to earn their high school diplomas while having more time for extracurricular activities. This unique half-day program also provides students the opportunity to graduate early and jump-start their college or professional careers.

College Planning and Career Preparation
A school administrator is available for students as they begin college planning in their junior year. 

Work/Study Program
Students receive credit for working after school/outside jobs. The student seeks their own hours, employment and reports to an HLA teacher for work/study credits which is equivalent to two courses.

Independent Study 
HLA offers students the option to complete course work through independent study programs. Students receive a course syllabus and complete comprehensive assignments, utilizing a flexible schedule that suits their personal needs. A final exam is required to complete the course.

Night School
Night school is an option for students who wish to augment their daily schedule with additional classes.  These classes are designed for recovery credit, but can also be utilized for advancement toward the goal of early graduation. Night school is offered during the fall and spring semesters. Class days and course offerings vary by location.

Summer School
Summer programs provide students with the ability to acquire recovery credits, if needed, or simply get ahead in their high school career.  Summer courses are intensive 2-3 week sessions that meet every day.

Virtual Course Offerings
HAL offers student the option to particpate in virtual school for courses required by the state of Texas for graduation. Course offerings include: English (1-4), Health, Bus. Computer Information Systems, Foundations of Fitness, Nutrition, Psychology, Wld Geography, Wld History, US History, Government, Economics, Algebra (1 & 2), Geometry, Math Models, PreCalculus, Integrated Physics & Chemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Life skills
